16th Paleolimnological Session
On March 19-20, 2026, the 16th Paleolimnological Session titled “Methods of reconstructing lake and peat moor environments” was held at the Institute of Geological Sciences. The main organizers were the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Environmental Management of the University of Wrocław, the Polish Limnological Society, the Polish Quaternary Union (POLQUA), and the Committee for Quaternary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
We hosted 66 specialists from various academic centers across Poland, working in the broadly understood field of Quaternary paleoenvironmental studies. The Session was officially opened by distinguished guests: the Dean of the Faculty of Earth Sciences, dr hab. Maciej Kryza, prof. UWr; the Director of the Institute, dr hab. Magdalena Matusiak-Małek, prof. UWr; and the Managing Director of the Polish Quaternary Union (POLQUA), as well as Chair of the Committee for Quaternary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences, prof. Zdzisław Jary.
During two highly productive days, participants listened to 30 presentations and examined 20 posters presenting various research methods for reconstructing paleoenvironments based on records preserved in lake and peat moor ecosystems.
A photo report from the event was prepared by Paweł Piotrowski.
