„HELPERS’ GENERATION” DKMS Foundation
On April 17-23, 2023, “HELPERS’ GENERATION” DKMS Foundation at the University of Wrocław organizes potential bone marrow and stem cell donor registration as a part of a student project. 60 higher education facilities from all around the country partake in this project. The project’s Grand Finale, in form of donor registration, will take place in all of them those days. Leaders of DKMS Foundation project from the UWr branch are Kacper Mazur, Daria Perkowska, and Julia Stachurska.
The “HELPERS’ GENERATION” project originated from DKMS Foundation’s initiative started in April 2013. The initiative aims to register potential bone marrow donors from higher education facilities. It also aims to help students engage in the fight against blood cancer through education and registration actions. Thanks to previous registrations, 150 000 students signed up to donate, and more than 1 297 (as of January 2023) of them were able to give patients in need a chance to live.
All healthy people between the age of 18-65 can register in the Donor of Bone Marrow and Stem Cell database for free. It only takes a moment to go through a medical interview, fill in a form with personal information, and take a buccal smear.
DKMS Foundation was registered on November 18, 2008, as an independent, non-profit organization and began activity on February 25, 2009. Until today, they were able to register and examine more than 1 857 552 potential donors, and more than 11 500 of them have saved lives with their donations (as of January 2023).
