Students for health

The World Health Organization defines mental health as a person’s physical, mental and social well-being, as well as the ability to develop and self-actualize. In the face of the events of recent years – the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, the generally tense international situation, as well as the daily rush, stress and uncertainty, the mental health of many people, especially young people, is exposed to many negative factors. However, according to the Analysis Center of the Polish Independent Students’ Association’s 2021 report – “Students’ Mental Health”, 64% of students believe that access to free psychological help is insufficient.

Driven by the desire to help all those who feel they need professional support, the Independent Students’ Association together with “The Presja” initiative, offer the opportunity to participate in free psychological consultations. They are held remotely, which makes it possible for any student to take advantage of them, regardless of their place of residence, the university they go to, or their field of study. It is also possible to book an appointment with a therapist who speaks English, which is a nod towards students of non-Polish nationality who study at Polish universities.

The consultations started on 25 October 2023. Registration takes place via a link, and students are able to adjust the day and time of the consultation and choose a therapist working within a specific specialty. Each student as part of this year’s consultation program is allowed to book up to three appointments.

The offer is also aimed at people who do not require immediate help, but who want to learn how to cope with prolonged stress, difficult emotions and pressure through consultations, as well as who need support for their overall mental condition and want to learn how not to give in to exorbitant social expectations.
