University election debate [coverage]

The candidates for the Rector of the University of Wrocław for the 2024-2028 term: Prof. Robert Olkiewicz, Prof. Robert Wieczorek and Prof. Marcin Wodziński presented themselves during the University Election Debate which was held at the University of Wrocław on 18th of March.

The candidates for Rector of the University of Wrocław outlined their election programmes. They referred to the most important issues in the functioning of the University. They addressed, among other issues, the University’s finances, teaching loads, administrative problems, IT problems and support for students and doctoral candidates. The issue of salaries, UWr’s spatial development proposals and the University’s management style were also raised.

In accordance with the rules of the debate, the candidates answered questions from members of the UWr community present in the Andrzej Mycielski Room, Building D, WPAE. Questions included the opening hours of the University Library, allowances for doctoral candidates, changes to the promotion system for teaching staff, and the main objectives of the IT Services Department. The issue of support for those applying for grants was raised. Attention was drawn to the need to activate and empower the Senate Committee. Participants also drew attention in their questions to the need to improve academic day-to-day life and to support students studying several programmes.

The debate was open and accessible to the entire academic community: staff, students and doctoral candidates.  The debate was broadcast in real time on the University of Wrocław website www.uwr.edu.pl.
