„Powojnie. Sztuka i architektura” – Museum of Architecture in Wrocław

On 9-12 October 2024, the Museum of Architecture in Wrocław will host another extraordinary event, on which we as UWr and the University of Wrocław Press have the opportunity to collaborate. This is the 31st international scholarly conference ‘Powojnie. Sztuka i architektura’, which will be accompanied by a post-conference publication published by the UWr.

Researchers from different countries, belonging to the Polish-German Working Group for Art History and Monument Preservation, will take up the ever-present topic of the place and role of art and architecture in post-war realities anew. The aim of the conference is to examine artistic phenomena occurring after wartime conflicts in different historical periods, political situations and geographical contexts, from a perspective that takes into account both their specific features and common elements.

Library Night with prof. Jan Miodek and dr Anna Lubińska

The Night of Libraries is a great celebration of libraries and reading – a nationwide action in an unconventional way encouraging people to use the resources of libraries as the most open and accessible cultural institutions with an offer for people of all ages, common places, bringing people together, local centres of live culture and education.

Libraries across Poland, with the support of the organisers, are preparing special events for readers. The publishing house will also be present on 11 October at the Lower Silesian Public Library (Rynek 58) for a meeting with dr Anna Lubińska on the recently published book ‘Książka i biblioteka w wybranych pracach Umberta Eco’. We encourage you to attend, all the more so as the book is receiving successive excellent reviews.

‘I had read a few of Umberto Eco’s novels but had not explored his biography. So I didn’t know that he worked in publishing, but that he had an extensive collection of books I could already assume. The author introduces us to his character and I must admit that I read these passages with great interest. The Italian soul and sensibility of a humanist contrasted with a fascist spirit, standing by his views and building up a huge collection of books that would also become an important theme of his work. A youth that laid the foundations of a wise maturity.’ – you can read on the website.
