Listen on the radio today about books!
We recommend two broadcasts today – at 3:30 p.m. on Radio Rodzina you can listen to a conversation with prof. Dariusz Wojtaszyn, the context of which will be the publication “Piłka nożna na celowniku polityki.” It’s not just sports, it’s also a story full of emotion, passion and… political influence!
The broadcast briefly discusses how soccer became a tool of political manipulation in the 20th and 21st centuries, how under Nazism and Communism soccer integrated societies and built new national identities, Ernest Wilimowski and other interesting facts about the world of soccer.
And at 5:30 p.m. during the publicist program at Ida Górska’s on Radio Wrocław, prof. Justyna Bajda will appear live to enchant listeners with a story about blue on Blue Monday! After all, what is beautiful and necessary for the most part is or appears to be blue – the sky, water, electricity and jeans… In spite of the negative associations, the history of the entry of the color blue into the living room, the emergence of various shades, and interesting facts about blue colors will be heard during this unique talk.
We announce February news!
Soon, after proofing and final revisions, three extremely interesting books will be headed to the printers!
„Kapitalizm jako źródło wartości. Wartości jako źródło katastrofy” dr hab. Jacek Schindler associated with the Institute of Cultural Studies. As one reviewer wrote: “Putting Jacek Schindler’s monograph from the theoretical side, it can be called a cultural-philosophical axiological treatise. In it, the author draws on philosophical means of building a conceptual system from the most basic level – the categories of “value” and “valuation” – passing through the concept of “utility” and singling out its various varieties in the process, to finally arrive at the categories of “rarity” and “uniqueness.” However, this philosophically constructed argument is built with concepts drawn primarily from cultural theory and economics.”
“Kulturoznawcza teoria kultury Stanisława Pietraszki a socjologia“by dr hab. Jerzy Żurek of the Institute of Sociology. The book reliably and in-depth presents and analyzes Stanisław Pietraszko’s theoretical thought in its biographical dimension and places this analysis in the context of the debates and disputes taking place at various times in the second half of the 20th century. At the same time, it is a story about how scientific preferences and choices were changing at the time and how the scientific community of Wrocław cultural studies was consolidating.
“Testamenty szlacheckie z ksiąg grodzkich i ziemskich ziemi chełmskiej z XVII wieku“edited by prof. Paweł Klint, dr hab. Konrad Rzemieniecki and Julia Pomian.
The presented collection of nearly 180 documents is a remarkable source of knowledge about the mentality of the nobility of the 17th century. After all, wills are not only a set of information about the disposition of property for heirs, they are also a farewell to mortality and a reckoning with life. In his last will, the nobleman decided to confess his faith, give instructions with regard to his funeral and support selected church institutions with money. We also learn from the wills about events in the lives of the authors, the difficulties of existence and family relationships. The book contains a collection of wills written by both magnates (including Koniecpolski and Ossolińska) and middle-aged and poor nobility from the Chelm region – an ethnic Polish-Ruthenian borderland.
We will certainly still inform you about these titles!
