How to plan municipal development effectively in the light of the latest legal reforms? The latest book in this field, edited by the staff of the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences at UWr: dr Agnieszka Lisowska-Kierepka, Head of the Integrated Planning Laboratory, and dr inż. Piotr Kryczka from the Department of Social and Economic Geography, will provide a comprehensive answer to the question, which concerns one of the basic challenges of contemporary local governance. The texts collected in it focus on the 2023 spatial planning reform, while offering the tools necessary to implement a municipal development strategy — a mandatory document integrating social, economic, spatial and environmental aspects of planning from 2026.

The authors, experts in integrated planning and socio-economic geography, discuss in detail the new regulations and their impact on territorial governance. The monograph combines solid theoretical foundations with concrete guidance to show how the new planning tools can promote sustainable development and territorial cohesion. Topics covered in the book published by WUWr include the role of public participation, the analysis of economic challenges, the sustainability of actions and the financing of projects included in the strategy.

‘Planowanie strategiczne dla zintegrowanego rozwoju gminy. Teoria. Praktyka. Działanie’ is a practical guide for local government officials, planners, researchers and students who want to respond effectively to challenges in a dynamically changing legal reality. It will enable local leaders to develop pertinent solutions and plan wisely for the future of their municipalities.

Baroque frescoes under the dome of the Ossolineum building – a guided tour with dr Marek Kwaśny, author of a book on Johann Jacob Eybelwieser the younger

On 9 April 2025 at 5 p.m., Emilia Kłoda will lead a meeting with Marek Kwaśny from the UWr Institute of Art History about the Baroque frescoes that decorate the Hall under the Dome of the Ossolineum’s main building. We will start in the Ossolineum’s Courtyard (or the Ossolineum Hall in case of bad weather). Dr Kwaśny will talk about the Order of the Crusaders with the Red Star, whose headquarters was the present-day Ossolineum, and about the author of the frescoes, Johann Jacob Eybelwieser the younger. We will then move on to the Hall under the Dome to see the master’s frescoes from 1715 up close.

Dr Marek Kwaśny published a book last year at the University of Wrocław Press entitled ‘Johann Jacob Eybelwieser młodszy. Wrocławski malarz doby baroku’. It will be available for purchase at a discounted price during the meeting. Entry free!
