Open lecture by Prof. Otfried Czaika
The Historical Institute at the University of Wrocław invites you to an open lecture by Prof. Otfried Czaika from the MF Norwegian School of Theology, Religion and Society (Oslo), entitled “Clash of Confessional Cultures? Henrik Steffens and the Old Lutherans in Silesia.”

The lecture will focus on Henrik Steffens (1773–1845) – a natural scientist and professor at the then University of Wrocław, known, among other things, as the director of the Mineralogical Cabinet, the discoverer of the mineral known as lievrite, and the initiator of the recruitment of Wrocław students for Lützow’s volunteer corps during the Napoleonic Wars.
The talk will shed light on a lesser-known aspect of Steffens’s activities – his interest in the Old Lutheran communities of Silesia and his reflections on the religious dimension of Romanticism.
