3rd National Congress on Security Studies
On 22–23 October 2025, participants of the 3rd National Congress on Security Studies, held in Wrocław, reflected on the opportunities, challenges, and directions for the development of this scientific discipline.
Security studies constitute a relatively young field of research that plays a crucial role in identifying and analysing threats to security in its various dimensions. There is an increasing social demand for specialists in this area, which in turn calls for their proper education and training.
The Congress on Security Studies is a regular nationwide academic event that provides a platform for exchanging views on both the theoretical and practical dimensions of security research.
The high-calibre team of researchers studying diverse aspects of security, based at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Wrocław, and their academic achievements, ensure not only the preparation of qualified specialists for the country’s institutions and services but also contribute innovative solutions in the field of security.
The Congress brought together several hundred representatives of leading academic centres, experts from state institutions dealing with security issues—including representatives of uniformed services—and analysts from research centres, ensuring a substantive and informed discussion.
The meetings served not only as a forum for professional exchange of ideas but also as an opportunity for integration and the identification of needs and challenges facing security studies as a discipline.
The event was also dedicated to doctoral students and undergraduates enrolled in programmes covering various aspects of security. The wide range of panel discussions, debates, and sessions testifies to the diversity of security-related topics addressed during the Congress.
Today, security is no longer associated solely with defence, internal, international, or military dimensions.
It now encompasses, among others, economic, environmental, informational, and cyber security. Additionally, issues such as security management and crisis situations form an integral part of this expanding field.
This year’s Congress took place across two Wrocław universities—the University of Wrocław and the General Tadeusz Kościuszko Military University of Land Forces.
