Seminar on National Security

In December, the University of Wrocław, together with the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces and the Doctrine and Training Centre of the Polish Armed Forces, will organise a scientific seminar entitled Bezpieczeństwo narodowe w kontekście przemian społecznych i wyzwań urbanizacyjnych: interdyscyplinarna diagnoza i perspektywy.

The event will continue previous discussions on issues relating to the security of Poland and Central and Eastern Europe, arising from dynamic social and urban changes as well as an evolving security architecture.

Today, the security environment is becoming increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous. At the same time, there is a noticeable deficit in the understanding of this environment, stemming, among other factors, from the interpenetration of military and civilian aspects, the development of new technologies, and globalisation processes with their multifaceted consequences. An additional challenge intensifying the perception of change in the security environment is the compression of the time available for analysing and understanding these changes, as well as for planning and implementing adequate solutions based on anticipating or responding to them.

According to experts, one of the most important trends affecting society and a key determinant of urbanisation processes today and at least until 2045 is the deepening demographic crisis, which will also have repercussions for Poland’s security across nearly all areas, as well as for the functioning of the Armed Forces—particularly now, during a period of escalating threats.

The forthcoming seminar and workshops are among numerous initiatives organised within the thematic area of monitoring current and emerging trends in the security environment at both regional and global levels. Representatives of the Polish Armed Forces, practitioners, experts and academics from Polish universities and research institutions will take part in the scientific debate.

The seminar will take place on 3 December (starting at 10:00) at the UWr Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics in the Prof. Iwo Jaworski Hall (Faculty Council Room, no. 119, 1st floor), Building “A”, ul. Uniwersytecka 22/26. On 4 December, workshops for invited guests will be held (starting at 09:00). The event will be conducted in a hybrid format – both on-site and online.

Participant registration is carried out electronically by completing the registration form – exclusively using an official e-mail address. Once the application has been approved, participants will receive a transmission link from the organiser. REGISTRATION LINK
