Statement of the rector of UWr in connection with the attack on Ukraine
Ladies and gentlemen,
Dear Colleagues,
today we are witnessing the unprecedented tragedy of Russia’s unprovoked military aggression against the Ukrainian nation. The University of Wrocław, which promotes openness and freedom and a culture of discussion as fundamental principles of a democratic social order, expresses its full solidarity with the victims of the criminal policy of the Russian President. Our Ukrainian friends, colleagues living both in Ukraine and Poland, can count on our support and assistance. I have written a letter on this matter to Professor Volodymyr Melnyk, the rector of the so-called sister university, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. Details of these activities will be agreed with representatives of the Ukrainian state and our partner universities.
I have always stressed that the response to aggression must be to disagree with the discourse of hatred, to promote dialogue firmly but calmly. We will also continue this policy in the face of the historic events taking place in Europe today.
At the same time, I would like to assure you that the University is working smoothly. Our students and lecturers can quietly prepare for the start of the new semester. At the moment, we do not foresee any deeper changes in the organisation of work. today, the most important challenge is to support our friends, the victims of the attack. We are with you. You can count on us.
