Purchase of scientific and research equipment

In order to support the research carried out within the Priority Research Areas at the University of Wrocław, an annual competition will be held to award funds for the purchase of scientific and research equipment. Our overarching aim is to purchase advanced and unique research infrastructure. The money comes from the Research Apparatus Fund.

What can you get money for?

  1. The purchase, manufacture or extension of scientific and research apparatus of a total value exceeding PLN 500,000.
  2. The rental, lease or leasing of scientific and research apparatus or IT infrastructure of a total value exceeding PLN 150,000.
  3. The employment of an employee to service the purchased equipment during the project.
  4. The cost of maintenance services for the duration of the project.

Who can apply for funding?

An employee of the University of Wrocław may apply for funding for an investment. The applicant must submit an application supported by the dean of the faculty in which he/she is employed. The faculty is called the Applicant Unit in the documentation.

Please note that an applicant can only submit one application per competition edition.


How to make an application?

  1. The applicant shall submit an application for funding for the purchase of research equipment by the deadline specified in the call for proposals.
  2. The applicant shall attach to the application at least one personal declaration on the use of the research apparatus, made by the applicant or other employees of the University of Wrocław (including team members). Declarations are a confirmation of the legitimacy of the investment. Only one declaration can be submitted by an UWr employee in one edition of the competition.
  3. The application must be accompanied by at least one price offer.
  4. The electronic application must be sent to the email address specified in the competition notice. It must include:
    • the completed application form in pdf format,
    • a scanned copy of the application page, including the signatures of the applicant and the head of unit,
    • a signed and scanned declaration on the use of the investment,
    • price offers.

Who evaluates the proposals and how?

The assessment of submitted applications is carried out by the Research Apparatus Fund Panel, appointed by the Rector.

  1. In the first stage, each application is scored independently by all team members.
  2. In the second stage, the final scores are agreed at a panel meeting. On their basis, a ranking list is established.
  3. According to the criterion for the evaluation of applications, the following are taken into account during the evaluation process:
    • initial evaluation,
    • evaluation of the investment: scientific level of the planned tasks, uniqueness of the investment, relevance of the investment for the Priority Research Areas, whether the applicant provides additional funding for the investment,
    • assessment of the target user group: users of the investment, scientific achievements of the target users of the investment,
    • weaknesses and strengths of the application – scoring.

Applications are recommended for funding in the order of their position on the ranking list until the available funds are exhausted.


When and how will the applicant be notified of the outcome of the competition?

The competition will be settled and the results announced no later than 45 days after the closing date for receipt of applications.

Information on the outcome of the competition will be sent to the applicant and the head of the unit by email.

The panel’s decision cannot be appealed.


When will the investment be funded?

The funding period for the investment starts in the year of allocation. The funds allocated for apparatus should be spent in the year of allocation. The unit shall bear the costs of maintaining the purchased apparatus beyond the scope of the maintenance contract financed by the Research Apparatus Fund.

The unit must make available apparatus purchased from the Research Apparatus Fund as part of the University Research Infrastructure Network.
