Faculty of Biotechnology
Where is research on bactericidal phages carried and where are new, antibacterial linen dressings from non-genetically modified EMO-betaGlu linseed created? Naturally, at the Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Wrocław, where the students of the best biotechnology programme in the country are instructed in modern laboratories.
The faculty was established in 2006. It consists of 12 departments and 2 laboratories.
Nearly 60 members of academic staff carry out, together with the students, research in the areas of biotechnology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, microbiology, immunology, virology, cell biology, and plant physiology. They co-operate with a number of academic centres in Poland and abroad, and recently also with companies from biotechnology sector.
The faculty is a part of Wrocław Biotechnology Centre which interdisciplinary nature provides comprehensive and wide range of research activities in carry out and implementing phases. It has been awarded a prestigious category A+ by the Committe for the Evaluation of Scientific Research Institutions. It is also the seat of the editorial office of Cellular and Molecular Biology Letters.
Study programme is tertiary, with bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. The faculty also offers studies in English at bachelor’s and doctoral level. Student learning is based on laboratory work under the tutelage of academic staff. The inclusion of research into the educational offer is the reason why the graduates of the faculty are in such high demand in Poland and beyond. They work at research, clinical, and industrial laboratories.
All science enthusiasts from outside can get to know the nooks and crannies of the laboratories and make experiments during the annual Lower Silesian Science Festival.
