Faculty of Physics and Astronomy
Dynamic, modern but with long tradition – such is the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy, which prepares its graduates for meeting the challenges of the modern labour market. It brings together outstanding scientists, such as Dr Arkadiusz Błaut from the Institute of Theoretical Physics, a member of the multinational team of researchers who directly measured gravitational waves predicted by Albert Einstein.
The faculty consists of 3 institutes:
- Institute of Experimental Physics
- Institute of Theoretical Physics
- Institute of Astronomy
The unit has been awarded scientific category A and provides education on bachelor’s, engineering, master’s, and doctoral levels.
It offers classic physics and astronomy studies, but also computational physics, econophysics, or theoretical physics in English. New fields of study have been created in order to expand the educational offer, namely applied computer science and measuring systems, which is one of the several fields completed with engineering degree. The students can develop their interests in 3 vibrant scientific groups.
The faculty has been engaged in well-developed and fruitful scientific co-operation as well as staff exchange programmes with dozens of institutions in Poland and worldwide. The co-operation takes the form of, among others, partnership in European Research Networks, long-term collaboration and bilateral agreements, and international research projects. Part of research is carried out in co-operation with CERN, Wrocław Research Centre EIT+, and the Space Research Centre of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
The Institute of Astronomy conducts research and runs classes in the astronomical observatory in Białków.
The faculty’s graduates find employment in scientific institutions, IT companies, industry, financial and insurance institutions, and health service.
