Wrocław Freedom
13 December 2021 marks the 40th anniversary of the introduction of martial law. It is the anniversary of extremely tragic events but also a day when the heroes and heroines did not hesitate to protest and act against the communist regime. University of Wrocław has initiated the badge of honour “Wrocławska Wolność” (Wrocław Freedom) for activists who were engaged in Wrocław at that time.
Wrocławska Wolność badge of honour is awarded to people, who in the period of communist dictatorship before 1989, as members of the University of Wrocław community (employees or students) stood up for fundamental values such as freedom, truth, justice and human dignity.
The badge of honour “Wrocławska Wolność” may also be awarded posthumously, in such case it is given to a representative of the closest family. In this edition, we would like to honour especially those members of our community who were involved in the opposition activity during the martial law. The badge of honour is awarded by the Rector of the University of Wrocław upon the proposal of the Chapter.
