University of Wrocław again 2nd in the RankPro ranking!

In this year’s edition of the international university ranking RankPro the University of Wrocław is again ranked 2nd among Polish universities. We were preceded only by the University of Warsaw. RankPro is a ranking published by ICS- International Council of Scientists, which mainly takes into account indicators that prove the quality of education. The results of RankPro are therefore important primarily for students and candidates for studies at our university.

The University of Wrocław was ranked 534th among the top 1000 universities in the world. In the TOP 1000 group the following Polish universities were classified:

  1. University of Warsaw– 297th place,
  2. University of Wrocław – 534th place,
  3. Gdańsk University of Technology – 572nd place,
  4. Jagiellonian University – 620th place,
  5. Warsaw University of Technology – 637th place,
  6. AGH University of Science and Technology-773rd place.

Moreover, this year we managed to qualify for the RankPro by subjects ranking in Biological sciences (the ranking included the Faculty of Biological Sciences and Faculty of Biotechnology) and Chemical sciences (Faculty of Chemistry). In both subject rankings the University of Wrocław  ranked between 401-500 of the best universities in the world.

In RankPro, a very important indicator is the student- staff ratio. The structure of the academic staff is also assessed, i.e. the percentage of professors and employees with a doctoral degree in relation to the total number of academic teachers, as well as the number of academic teachers and researchers coming from abroad. The membership of university employees in the Polish Academy of Sciences and foreign academies is also taken into account.

The ranking evaluates the teaching offer of universities, i.e. the number of  study programmes  at particular levels of education (including the number of doctoral programmes and doctoral schools), the number of international double degree programmes. The offer of continuing education and distance learning programmes is also taken into account.

An important element is the internationalisation of the university, which, apart from the number of foreign university employees, includes among others: the number of foreign students and the number of countries they come from, foreign student exchanges and mobility programmes and the number of foreign partner universities. The indicators related to the quality of teaching have a total weighting of 50%.

In addition, indicator relating to the university’s reputation among academic staff, both nationally and internationally has a total weight of 25% in RankPro. The last component of the ranking, with the total weight of 25%, is the quality of information about the University’s activities on its homepage. RankPro examines whether the information contained on the website is avaiable and complete, the English-language version is taken into account.

Details of the ranking can be found here.
