Symposium “The Left after Neoliberalism”<\/h1>\n\n\n

Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-B\u0105k, prof. Grzegorz Ko\u0142odko, prof. Marian Noga and Krzysztof \u015amiszek – these are just some of the participants of the symposium ‘Left after neoliberalism’, which will take place on 25 November at the Faculty of Social Sciences at 10:00<\/strong>. The aim of the meeting is to discuss the role of the Left in the modern world.
The event is co-organised by the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Wroc\u0142aw and the Future, Socialism, Democracy Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GOALS OF THE SYMPOSIUM<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aim of the symposium is to give a concrete description of the trends, forces and processes that are at work in the declining period of the doctrine known as neoliberalism, which until recently reigned supreme in all areas of life. It is of the utmost importance to follow political, economic and social developments and to seek answers to the question of how the forces and collectivities defining themselves as leftist, modernist and progressive should behave (and what to expect) in this case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The intention of the organisers of the symposium is not to search for programme ideas for the left in the forthcoming parliamentary elections in Poland, but to initiate a discussion on the strategic role of the left in today’s dynamically changing world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What does the term LEFT at the end of neoliberalism mean? What new phenomena and processes does the LEFT face, unknown or known, but on an unprecedented scale? Such phenomena and processes are, for example, progressive climate change, plundering of the Earth’s resources, rapidly increasing economic stratification of societies, unrecognised social consequences of the technological revolution, implementation of traditional social postulates of the Left by groups on the extreme Right. Panellists at the symposium will attempt to answer these and other questions related to the role (duties?) of the Left in the face of challenges faced by societies and individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All speeches will be delivered in the Polish language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prominent Polish economist and politician. Lecturer at Kozminski University. Author of more than 50 books published in 26 languages. Honoured with 15 Honoris Causa degrees from foreign universities and one from a Polish university. His most recent publications are \u201e\u015awiat w matni\u201d and \u201eWojna i pok\u00f3j\u201d. The book \u201eWojna i pok\u00f3j\u201d signed by the author will be available for purchase during the symposium.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The main objectives of the panel will be to seek answers to questions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

what should be understood by the term ‘left’ at the end of the neoliberal era? what should be its main features and characteristics?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

should the Left be a socio-political movement proposing its own socio-economic alternative to the post-neoliberal world, or should it remain an ‘adaptive’ movement, limiting its activity to ‘socialising’ the reality created by other options?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

what about democracy in the face of its crisis in the liberal version: fa\u00e7ade democracy (formal-institutional) or citizen democracy?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
