Professor W\u0142odzimierz Wysocza\u0144ski captures the extraordinary complexity and diversity of the stock of Polish dialects and the extra-linguistic dimension perpetuated in them. Analysing the output of linguistic creativity of generations of dialect users, he addresses the issue of the influence of culture on language and the question of cultural memory. In the concept he proposes, using a code-thematic approach, he makes it possible to ‘rediscover dialects’. The publication shows the distinctiveness of dialects, but also their connectivity with the national language. The presented collection of phrases is a kind of ‘journey through words’ that have been naming and interpreting the surrounding reality for centuries. Documenting and studying these linguistic phenomena is fundamental to the preservation of our cultural heritage. In the face of globalisation and cultural homogenisation, such works remind us of the uniqueness and value of local linguistic traditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A remarkable book whose source material includes more than 20,000 phrases, given in the form of source notation together with the geographical location of their occurrence and meaning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We warmly recommend the latest issue of “Prace Kulturoznawcze”, dedicated to the memory of professor Stefan Bednarek. The authors of the papers published in it address issues related to the mechanisms of remembering and forms of collective memory of historical experiences in the perspective of the question of the historicity of culture. This issue, among many interests, was the guiding thread of Stefan Bednarek’s scientific research. He developed his own concept of mnemotopos, which emphasised the cultural dimension and shape of the attitude to the past, which is also an attitude to values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We would like to recommend to you the last copies of the S\u0142ownik Literatury Popularnej, which the WUWr team accidentally found while tidying up one of the warehouses!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The idea to compile the dictionary came about for two reasons: the first is the flooding of the book market with a variety of publications, which creates the need to provide necessary information to readers confused by the chaos of genres, names and titles; the second, the need to summarise the state of knowledge about popular literature in Poland. The dictionary attempts to answer the questions of both readers and science. This dual-purpose nature of the entries has resulted in a variety of levels and types of statements: the general entries introduce cognitively complex issues of literary communication in popular circulation, while the specific entries are geared towards historical-typological information, i.e. primarily a discussion of genres and the literary output of individual authors, past and present. The entries have been compiled according to generally accepted principles, but the characteristics of the authors’ individual style and their mode of interpretation have been preserved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As you can read on the lubimyczyta\u0107.pl website, it is “The only complete study of popular literature issues in Poland. Texts by professors and lecturers who deal or have dealt with pop culture texts. Although quite a long time has passed since the publication of the Dictionary, it still fulfils its role and is useful in the work and serialisation of knowledge in literature. At the same time, it is a mine of knowledge on the emergence of particular genres.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
