Wydział Neofilologii zaprasza na wykład otwarty, który wygłosi belgijski naukowiec, profesor Pieter Vermeulen (KU Leuven), zatytułowany „The Anthropocene: A Literary Career”, 20 października 2025 roku o godz. 12:00 w Katedrze Judaistyki im. T. Taubego przy ul. św. Jadwigi 3/4 we Wrocławiu. Spotkanie odbędzie się w Auli im. prof. J. Woronczaka.
Wykład organizowany jest w ramach programu Inicjatywa Doskonałości – Uczelnia Badawcza (IDUB), a współorganizatorami są Zakład Literatury Angielskiej i Studiów Porównawczych Instytutu Filologii Angielskiej.
Biogram
Pieter Vermeulen jest profesorem nadzwyczajnym literatury amerykańskiej i porównawczej w KU Leuven. Autor ponad 90 publikacji naukowych, w tym trzech monografii: Geoffrey Hartman: Romanticism after the Holocaust (Continuum, 2012), Contemporary Literature and the End of the Novel: Creature, Affect, Form (Palgrave Macmillan, 2015) i Literature and the Anthropocene (Routledge, 2020).
O wykładzie
In the past two decades, the notion of the Anthropocene has assumed a prominent place in the humanities and social sciences. But how exactly did the term establish itself on research and teaching agendas? By looking at key developments in recent literary studies, this lecture develops a more fine-grained understanding of the concept’s multiple roles in the discipline. The lecture shows that the concept’s “literary career” not only contains different ways it has impacted literary studies, but also testifies to the way the concept itself has been shaped by its mobilizations in literature and literary studies.
