The best lecturers, high places in national rankings, world-class research and the status of Research University are some of the many advantages that make the University of Wrocław an attractive place to work and study for many doctoral students.
In May 2019, the Doctoral School of the University of Wrocław was established. It currently has 16 doctoral colleges in 22 scientific disciplines.
Doctoral training programmes focus both on providing doctoral students with the highest qualifications in a particular scientific field and on supporting them in completing their doctoral theses, as well as on sharing the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to manage their own careers. Doctoral students build up their research and teaching skills and work in interdisciplinary and international teams. They are also supported in conducting their own research projects. Doctoral students at the Doctoral School of UWr benefit from implementation doctorates, Preludium BIS, OPUS projects and many others.
All matters concerning doctoral students can be found on the intranet. There you will find, among other things, information on your individual research plan, mid-term assessment and much more. Direct link below in the “For doctoral students” section.

The preparation of the doctoral dissertation can take place in the mode:
1) the training of doctoral students
Doctoral training may involve training:
- in doctoral programmes commenced before the academic year 2019/2020 (to be terminated by the end of December 2023)
- in a doctoral school (from 1 October 2019). The extramural mode resembles the existing so-called “free rate” mode. In contrast to doctoral training, this mode excludes the stage of structured learning and thus the associated methods of verification of learning outcomes. For this reason, this mode takes into account additional forms of verification of learning outcomes at level 8 of the Polish Qualification Framework for candidates applying for the award of the doctoral degree, as defined by the doctoral subject. Proceedings are initiated at the request of a person wishing to obtain a doctoral degree. A person applying for a doctoral degree in an extramural mode shall pay a fee for the proceedings.
