Dr Stanislaw Krawczyk, winner of Miniatura 7 from the National Science Centre
Dr Stanislaw Krawczyk works at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Wroclaw, at the Institute of Sociology in the Department of the Sociology of Science, Knowledge and Culture. He received funding from the National Science Centre in the amount of: PLN 26,646 for the project „Nieuznawane formy międzynarodowej komunikacji naukowej. Regionalna współpraca badawcza w Chile” („Unrecognised forms of international science communication. Regional research cooperation in Chile”).
He is carrying out the project independently. He has consulted with Carolina Guzmán-Valenzuela, a Chilean internationalisation researcher. „I will also benefit from her support in contacting the people I want to interview”.
What is the awarded project about? „The same language is spoken in most Latin American countries, but publication-documented scientific collaborations between people from different countries on the continent are very rare” – the researcher says. „Why? With this project, I want to answer this question and, at the same time, take a closer look at those forms of scientific activity that undoubtedly have an international character, but may escape us when we use the word 'internationalisation’, directing our gaze mainly towards prestigious English-language publications”.
Dr Krawczyk plans to travel to Santiago to conduct a series of interviews with Chilean researchers and scholars conducting international scientific collaborations within Latin America.
„The roots of the project go back to my postdoctoral fellowship in the Scholarly Communication Research Group at Adam Mickiewicz University Poznań (2020-2022). It was there that I became more interested in research on science and higher education, and while analysing interviews with Polish researchers, I noticed phenomena usually overlooked in discussions about internationalisation” – he says. „Besides going to Chile in 2024 I will also be doing a fairly similar project in Denmark, in this case on the Nordic countries. I am looking forward to bringing together research findings from different parts of the world and connecting with people shaped by different scientific traditions”.
