Presentation-Leopoldina

TUEUROPEANA CONFERENCE

On 26 and 27 November 2018, the TUEUROPEANA 2018 seminar took place at the University Library in Wrocław, during which the project entitled “Leopoldina online – a platform for integrating and sharing electronic resources of the University of Wrocław for science, education and popularisation of knowledge” was presented.

The speakers emphasised during their presentations that digitisation of scientific resources is very important. As Tomasz Kalota said, a milestone in the development of digital services at the University of Wrocław is the Leopoldina online project, which will expand existing digital services and create new ones. “With this, we want to improve and integrate all scientific communication between units across the university and use the technological potential to improve communication between different systems.”

The project will develop a triple if streaming process – a way of representation in a digital library, a repository, a museum, as well as a georeferenced cartographer’s reference and cataloguing application that allows cartographic objects to be presented on google maps. Tasaurus systems will be produced to enable better description, a virtual transcription lab where a stream can be pulled into an external system and transcribed. Work teams will be created that can gather around this task and give special tags.

The entire range of digital services provided is aimed at both the academic community and the general public.

“We will also appeal to all researchers, scientists, publishers and the entire academic community. We will invite them to cooperate and develop a methodology for the use of the collections in question, as well as, and in accordance with the art of museology and archival science, develop further collections and subject them to digitisation.” – Kalota said.

The Leopoldina online project was presented by Tomasz Kalota, employed at the University Library as senior master, he is the administrator of the content, controls file quality and postproduction, and Marcin Szala, coordinator of the tender for optoelectronic equipment, configuration of digitisation workstations for the Leopoldina online project.

Conference on the security of collections stored in scientific and cultural institutions.

On 13 and 14 December 2018, a conference entitled “Collection security in institutions of science and culture” was held at the Wrocław University of Technology. The programme included speeches presenting examples of distributed presentation architecture, issues related to the digitisation of materials and problems of protecting museum and library collections. In his speech, Tomasz Kalota, presented Leopoldina online as a project which will streamline and integrate all academic communication between units across the University.
