We are changing
We have been operating since 1702 and are one of the oldest universities in Central Europe. We build on the historical heritage of Silesia and the legacy of Austrian, Prussian, Czech and Polish culture, also continuing the traditions of Polish universities in Lviv and Vilnius. Today, the University of Wrocław has 150 fields of study, 22,000 students, 900 doctoral students and almost 2,000 researchers, lecturers and teachers. According to Polish and international rankings, it is the most important classical university in Poland next to the universities of Kraków, Warsaw and Poznań. We employ the best specialists, including more than 500 professors, also from foreign academic institutions. We have almost 300 scientific departments, over 20 laboratories and 160 research centres. We operate like a small city – our academic community numbers 30,000 people.
We are still changing! We are the only Research University in Lower Silesia and one of ten in Poland, thanks to which our faculties can supply their research centres and laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment, and students can count on attractive scholarship programmes. We have recently joined the Arqus network of European universities, which will allow our students to benefit from programmes, courses, seminars and research laboratories in Leipzig, Granada, Minho, Lyon, Graz, Padua and Vilnius. We are the only Polish scientific partner of the Casus research centre in Goerlitz. We conduct infrastructure projects, carry out conservation work on historic buildings and interiors of our university, such as Aula Leopoldina or the palace in Białków. We are adapting our infrastructure to the needs of people with disabilities. We are updating our range of courses to meet the demands of the labour market.
