Invitation to the 4th Meeting of German Studies Convention in Wrocław, 19-21.10.2022
The Willy Brandt Centre for German and European Studies of the University of Wrocław cordially invites you to participate in the IV. German Studies Convention, which is a cyclical scientific meeting that is also open to various popularisation activities. The Centre’s facility is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The centre is a joint initiative of the University of Wrocław and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
Previous editions of the Convention have featured researchers from Poland, Germany and other established countries, but the presence of young German scholars has also always been given great attention. It was also an opportunity to present current work, recent publications, network and exchange.
This year’s Convention will feature discussions in various formats, panels, book presentations and a film project. The event is seen as one of many fields of debate about the challenges that have arisen in relations between Germany and its neighbours and partners to the east. The official opening of the Convention will be preceded by the opening of an exhibition of works by Wiesław Smętek, a well-known Polish graphic artist and painter who has been active in Germany for many years. Many of the panels will address Ukrainian and Eastern European issues from the point of view of Europe and, above all, Germany.
The organisers decided to bring the main debates closer together, such as the issue of dealing with the colonial past or the topic of post-war reparations/compensation. A list of panels, book presentations and film screenings can be found in the programme attached below.
The session will be held in a stationary and hybrid mode from 19.10 to 21.10.2022.
