22nd not only Slavic Song Contest

The greatest hits of all time in various languages, not only Slavic…

On 12 May 2025, the 22nd edition of the not only Slavic Song Contest will take place in the Oratorium Marianum, organised by the Institute of Slavic Studies – students and doctoral students, SKNR WroSlawianie, the Culture and Art Centre in Wrocław, International Office of the University of Wrocław, and the Centre for Student and Doctoral Activities of the University of Wrocław.

Initially, only students from the Institute of Slavic Studies participated in the contest, including Bohemists, Russianists, Serbians and Ukrainians. Over time, the contest took on a national and even international character. Students from Kraków, Opole, Lublin, Warsaw, Białystok and Zielona Góra, as well as from friendly university centres in the Czech Republic, Russia, and Ukraine, performed on the stage of the Aula Leopoldina and the Oratorium Marianum. Since last year, participants have been able to perform songs in all languages, not just Slavic.

This year’s 22nd edition of the Not Only Slavic Song Contest therefore invites students and doctoral candidates from all universities – both in Wrocław and other centres, both Polish and foreign (including students participating in the Erasmus+ programme), as well as foreign students from the School of Polish Language and Culture for Foreigners, to present on the stage of the Oratorium Marianum the greatest hit of all time in the language of their choice.

Participation conditions: for the preliminary elimination concert, students and doctoral students who best and most interestingly present the greatest not only Slavic hit in the language of their choice will be selected by the organizers. A maximum of 13 participants/teams will be allowed to compete.

Young artists are requested to submit their applications and a demo of one song in the chosen language by 20 April 2025 at the latest. A pre-competition jury composed of organisers and musicians will select one of them based on vocal timbre and repertoire selection. We assume that the students of the various philologies will primarily promote their fields of study. The organisers focus on the linguistic diversity of the works performed.

In order to maintain linguistic proportions and avoid turning the competition into a monolingual song festival, if the majority of entries are received in one language, the organisers will offer participants to perform the competition song in another language, e.g. Polish.

The application should include:
– the name of the band/name and surname of the soloist, university/city;
– the title and language in which the song will be performed;
– previous achievements (a few sentences about yourself, mandatory);
– personnel and instrumentation;
(songs can be performed a capella or with accompaniment – no possibility of playback from a musical backing track);
– participants admitted to the competition will choose their accompanists themselves; in case of problems, the organisers provide assistance;
– phone number and email address.

Applications should be sent to: kps@uwr.edu.pl;+48 506 75 83 22.

– organisers provide professional technical support;
– participants bear the costs of travel and accommodation.

The 22nd edition of the not only Slavic Song Contest will take place on Monday, 12 May, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Oratorium Marianum. Rehearsals are scheduled on the eve and on the day of the competition, about which all qualified participants will be informed in advance.
