
4th edition of the ‘Cesta k překladu’ competition for the translation of a literary text from Czech
On 28 March 2025, the Institute of Slavic Studies will host the fourth edition of the ‘Cesta k překladu’ competition, which is very popular among high school students in Wrocław. The competition is intended for secondary school students learning Czech. The aim of the competition is to translate a piece of literary text from Czech into Polish. The translations, prepared in teams of three, will be evaluated by a jury composed of research and teaching staff from the Department of Czech Studies at the University of Wrocław and students of Czech Studies. During the jury’s deliberations, the pupils and students will take part in workshops prepared by lecturers from the Institute of Slavic Studies: dr Ilona Gwóźdź-Szewczenko and dr Lenka Ptak.
The fourth edition of the ‘Cesta k překladu’ competition is co-organised by employees of two units of the Faculty of Languages. Literatures and Cultures at the University of Wrocław: dr Olga Czernikow, dr hab. Jarosław Malicki, dr Mateusz Wiśniewski and dr Dorota Żygadło-Czopnik from the Department of Bohemian Studies at the Institute of Slavic Studies and dr Regina Solová from the Translation Department at the Institute of Romance Studies, in cooperation with the Student Scientific Association of Bohemian Studies at the University of Wrocław.
The awards were funded by: the Faculty of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at the University of Wrocław, the Parents’ Council of Secondary School No. 9 in Wrocław, and the Wrocław publishing houses Afera and Książkowe Klimaty.
