9th edition of the international scientific conference “Linguistische Treffen in Wrocław”

The 9th edition of an international scientific conference “Linguistische Treffen in Wrocław” in the Institute of German Studies of the University of Wrocław took place between 21st of September and 23rd of September, 2023. These conferences, organised regularly and continuously, have assembled over 1,000 participants from over 20 countries since 2006.

The subject of the conference was “Fachsprachliche Perspektiven der linguistischen Forschung.” The conference was organised by the Institute of Applied Linguistics and the Institute of German Language of the IFG UWr [Institute of German Studies of the University of Wrocław].

The conference was started by prof. UWr, dr hab. Justyna Ziarkowska, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Letters for science and international cooperation; prof. dr hab. Tomasz Małyszek, Director of the IFG; and dr hab. Joanna Szczęk, Head of the Institute of Applied Linguistics of the IFG UWr.

Plenary lectures during the conference were delivered by: prof. dr Thorsten Roelcke (the Technical University of Berlin), prof. dr dr h.c. mult. Norbert Richard Wolf (the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg), prof. dr dr h.c. Ernest W.B. Hess-Lüttich (the Technical University of Berlin), prof. dr Lenka Vanková (the University of Ostrava), prof. dr Peter Ernst (the University of Vienna), prof. UMCS, dr hab. Magdalena Sowa (the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University of Lublin), prof. dr Heinz-Helmut Lüger (the University of Koblenz-Landau), prof. dr Zuzana Bohusova (the University of Banská Bystrica).

67 scholars from eight countries (Poland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Czechia, Slovakia, France, Latvia) participated in the conference. The participants represented 21 Polish and foreign scholarly institutes. 48 lectures were given, in ten topical sections dedicated to different aspects of specialised languages.

The organisers of the conference plan the publication of texts based on reports in the newspaper “Linguistische Treffen in Wrocław”.

Another, anniversary 10th edition of the conference “Linguistische Treffen in Wrocław”, is planned on 2025.
