
Report from the Global Problems and Prospects in Public Law
We share with you a recollection of this year’s Public Law Lawyers’ Congress entitled “Global Problems and Prospects in Public Law” organised on 4-6 July 2022 by the University of Wrocław in cooperation with the International Society of Public Law and the City Hall of Wrocław, as well as the Saxon Liaison Office.
The congress was attended by the then incumbent Minister of Justice of Italy, professor Marta Cartabia and the Minister of Justice of Lower Saxony, Katja Meier, as well as many eminent public law scholars from around the world. There were also two plenary sessions on public health and migration, and more than 200 panel sessions, with a total of 1,080 people presenting papers – 570 online and 510 present on site.
The plenary session entitled “Healing the World: Global Public Health Challenges and Perspectives”, featuring prof. Phoeba Okowa from London’s Queen Mary University, prof. Siri Gloppen from the University of Bergen, prof. Judith Sandor from Central European University and prof. Pedro A. Villarreal of the Max Planck Institute for International and Comparative Law in Heidelberg:
The plenary session entitled “War, Conflict, and Migration – Governance of Migration in Times of Crisis”, featuring prof. Patrycja Matusz from the University of Wrocław, prof. Jorrit Rijpmy from the University of Leiden, prof. Mayra Feddersen Martinez from the Adolf Ibáñez University in Santiago de Chile and Carmen Peréz from the Charles III University in Madrid.
The topic of the responsibility of writers and lawyers was raised in a conversation with Olga Tokarczuk, moderated by prof. Adam Bodnar and attorney Sylvia Gregorczyk-Abram. Interview with Olga Tokarczuk:
Events accompanying the congress included meetings of the editorial boards of global public law journals (European Journal of International Law and International Journal of Constitutional Law), workshops on publishing in international journals and networking events for the scientific community, as well as a gala on diversity in the scientific world.
