Traditions, customs and culture of Christmas over the years
This year, the Wrocław University Library invited four exceptional guests – prof. Urszula Glensk, Ms Agnieszka Szepetiuk-Barańska, prof. Paweł Klint and prof. Krzysztof Migała – who agreed to talk about how Christmas traditions, culture and customs have changed over the years.
Listening to the guests discuss, we can find out when and where exactly it was decided to celebrate Christmas on 25 December; why the festive season is generally considered to be magical and whether Christmas is always associated with snow. Guests also talk about why Christmas is a social event and explain how Christmas was celebrated in the Poland of our ancestors. Difficult questions are also asked – how important are Christmas Eve traditions and do they relate to reality or remain just empty gestures?
We invite you to a festive discussion in the Cultural Lounge, located in the University Library – we are sure it will not be difficult to feel the Christmas and magical atmosphere of the holidays.
