PLN 110 million for University of Wrocław

On 30 December 2022, University of Wrocław received targeted treasury bonds worth PLN 110 million from the Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. The bonds in the amount of PLN 30 million will be used for the construction of the Polish-Ukrainian Cooperation Centre at the University of Wrocław and the building of the Institute of Musicology, for which a new joint building will be constructed at ul. Kuźnicza (in the area of the former Kalogródek).

The aim of the Centre will be to support Ukrainian science through scientific cooperation between UWr and Ukrainian universities, as well as to rebuild the didactic potential of Ukrainian universities. The Polish-Ukrainian Cooperation Centre will also carry out teaching projects supporting Ukrainian refugees.

The remaining bonds, worth PLN 80 million, will be used for the construction of the Physical and Chemical Research Centre, with Kornel Morawiecki as the proposed patron, which will be built at ul. Koszarowa. The final decision on the name of the centre will be taken at a meeting of the Senate Council of the University of Wrocław.

The centre will consist of two adjacent buildings with a total usable area of approximately 50,000 m2, housing the Institute of Experimental Physics, the Institute of Theoretical Physics, the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy and the Faculty of Chemistry. The investment will cost in total around PLN 800 million. The funds received, in the amount of PLN 80 million, will be used for their own contribution to the European project, including the preparation of the construction project.
