The first anniversary of the outbreak of the Russia–Ukraine war. Discussion

The Chair of European Studies, in cooperation with Civitas Christiana, is launching a series of discussions that will focus on important social, political, and philosophical issues of contemporary Europe and the World.

The introductory meeting was attended by dr hab. Piotr Grabowiec, dr Jakub Bornio, and dr Paweł Wróblewski. The reason for the discussion was the 1st anniversary of the outbreak of the Ukrainian-Russian war. In the first part, the speakers reviewed the civilizational conditions of Russia, its identity, history, and political ambitions. They paid special attention to highlighting the essence of Russian specificity, allowing to qualify Russia and Russians, as a separate civilizational reality. In the second part, they focused on formulating an evaluation of the war and political events in Ukraine. The analysis of the situation and carefully formulated predictions for the future concerned the future of Ukraine and Russia, as well as European involvement in the stabilization of the region. The discussants did not forget the Polish context, signaling the challenges facing Poland and Poles in the face of the consequences of the ongoing military conflict.

The Chair of European Studies, meeting the need to spread scientific knowledge and the position of the academic community, will organize discussions within the framework of the recurrent project “Lightshades – on politics and society in the modern world.” The somewhat more casual nature of the meetings – “over a cup of coffee” – is intended to help reach a non-academic audience interested in substantive debate and appreciating the value of extended argumentation.
