50 years of the Department of Political and Administrative Systems
On 1 March, the Faculty of Social Sciences hosted a conference of the Department of Political and Administrative Systems of the Institute of Political Science, held under the theme „System polityczny: teorie, analizy, areny” (“Political System: theories, analyses, arenas”). The event was a double occasion to celebrate: firstly, the 50th anniversary of the Department’s operation, and also an opportunity to give a solemn vote of thanks to the Department’s long-time head, prof. em. dr Andrzej Antoszewski, who retired during one of the pandemic waves.
The conference, attended by representatives of political systems departments and chairs from all over Poland, discussed political systems, democracy, the crisis of representation, electoral behaviour, populism or extremism. The event was opened by the dean of the WNS and thus head of the Department of Political and Administrative Systems, prof. dr hab. Robert Alberski, the director of the Institute of Political Science, dr hab. prof. UWr Dariusz Skrzypiński, and the conference manager, dr hab. prof. UWr Przemysław Żukiewicz. The introductory lecture entitled “Traitors or clever? Inter-party transfers of parliamentarians in the light of democratic theory” was delivered by prof. em. dr hab. Andrzej Antoszewski. We also had a discussion on the Wrocław School of Political Systems and what distinguishes it from other system schools in Poland. The meeting was also an occasion for the premiere of a commemorative monograph dedicated to Professor Andrzej Antoszewski, which was edited by professors Robert Alberski and Przemysław Żukiewicz.
