National Programme for the Development of Humanities in 2022

The University of Wrocław was among institutions, which in 2022 have received the highest envelope granted under the National Programme for the Development of Humanities (Narodowy Program Rozwoju Humanistyki). The amount granted to our university amounted to over 4,4 mln PLN.

In 2022 under the National Programme for the Development of Humanities three contests in the “National heritage” module, two in: “Universals 2.2” i “Fundaments” modules and one in “Universals 2.1” module were settled. The total amount of support of 90 041 684,13 zł was divided between 44 beneficiaries, including: 17 public universities, 8 institutes of the Polish Academy of Science and 8 scientific associations. Funding was awarded to the projects of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences, Cieszyn Library and the Ossolineum (also known as the Osoliński National Institute) as well.

The National Programme for the Development of Humanities was created in 2011 as an answer to demands from humanistic environments. The underlying assumptions have been developed in consultation with the most outstanding representatives of humanities in Poland. The aim of the National Programme for the Development of Humanities is a funding of projects significant for the science and educational policy of the country, which have to meet the following conditions:

  • are original projects with undeniable scientific value,
  • have primary importance in terms of conducting research in the future or synthesize current state of research,
  • are characterized by usability for different scientific disciplines in the in the humanities or art disciplines, and are useful in the academic didactics
  • contain contents of humanities or appropriate methods for the humanities,
  • demand creating and keeping specialist research team (does not apply to the “Universals 2.1” module). 

In the National heritage” i Fundaments” modules the projects of an edition of sources and documents, desktop publishingsand compendium of knowledge used for research on Polish cultural heritage are funded. The monographs and studies related to issues about the particular significance of Polish identity can be supported as well. 

The aim of “Universals 2.1” module is financing translations of the most outstanding monographs of Polish humanities into: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish or Russian in order to introduce them to the international circulation of the scientific book. Whereas in the “Universals 2.2” module the multi-annual projects about the edition in Polish of the most significant pieces of art, world humanities in particular are, supported financially.
