Simply beautiful! Exhibition at the Institute of Sociology
At the Institute of Sociology of the University of Wrocław, in the Campus of the Faculty of Social Sciences at ul. Koszarowa, on the occasion of the Day for Combating Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities and the Day of Dignity of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities, the exhibition “Po prostu piękni” (“Simply beautiful”) was opened. This is an exhibition of photographs from the “Po prostu piękni” Gala, which took place at the Municipal Arsenal in Wrocław. The highlight of the event was a fashion show in which people with disabilities, charges of the L’Arche Foundation, played the role of models.
The exhibition at the Institute of Sociology was organised by dr Dariusz Szrejder, a lecturer at our University and a member of Office Wrocław Bez Barier. During the opening of the exhibition, students of social work and economic sociology could meet representatives of the L’Arche Foundation – Ms. Anna Przybysławska, Ms. Milenka Jurkiewicz and Ms. Joanna Stasieńko. Other guests included Dominik Golema, director of the Office Wrocław Bez Barier and Piotr Pieńkowski, deputy director of the Institute of Sociology. A lecture on human dignity was given by Michał Piechel – Social Advisor to the Mayor of Wrocław for People with Disabilities.
The guests from the L’Arche Foundation received a poster as a gift, which was prepared by the Smyki preschoolers from the Szkoła Podstawowa im. ks. Wawrzyńca Bochenka w Czeszowie (Primary School named after Father Wawrzyniec Bochenek in Czeszów).
The L’Arche Foundation has been operating in Poland for 40 years and has been actively supporting adults with intellectual disabilities since the beginning. In Wrocław it runs two family-type homes and a complex of sheltered housing. The Foundation is also involved in educational activities and supports the development of the individual talents and passions of its residents.
