The creator of GRAS is Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, an agency best known for its Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), published since 2009. The GRAS ranking, currently covering 55 academic disciplines, began publishing in 2017. GRAS evaluates disciplines in the life sciences, medical sciences, social sciences, life sciences and technical sciences. It is a ranking to which universities do not report any data; it is taken fully automatically from Web of Science and InCites. This year’s edition takes into account bibliometric data from 2018-2022.
A total of 1,900 universities were included in the GRAS 2023 ranking, out of 5,000 that were subject to evaluation, in each of the 55 disciplines. This edition of GRAS included 23 universities from Poland.
In the GRAS ranking, 5 indicators are taken into account:
- research output – an indicator measured by the number of university publications in a given discipline in journals in the first quartile (Q1) in terms of Impact Factor;
- research influence – calculated using Category Normalized Citation Impact (CNCI), which is the ratio of citations of articles published by the university in a given discipline to the average number of citations of articles in the same category, published in the same year and in the same type of journals;
- international research cooperation – the ratio of joint publications with foreign authors to the total number of publications of the institution is taken into account;
- research quality – measured by the number of papers published by the institution in the top journals in the field (TOP papers);
- significant academic awards (including Nobel Prizes and Fields medals).
Congratulations to all University of Wrocław researchers in the fields of mathematics, psychology and ecology!
