
21st not only Slavic Song Contest
On May 13, 2024, at 4:00 PM, the 21st edition of the not only Slavic Song Contest will take place in the Oratorium Marianum, organized by the Institute of Slavic Studies – SKNR WroSlawianie, the Culture and Art Centre in Wrocław, International Office of the University of Wrocław, and the Centre for Student and Doctoral Activities of the UWr.
Initially, only students from the Institute of Slavic Studies participated in the competition, including Bohemists, Russianists, Serbistics, and Ukrainians. Over time, the contest took on a national and even international character. Students from Kraków, Opole, Lublin, Warsaw, Białystok, Zielona Góra, as well as from friendly university centers in the Czech Republic, Russia, and Ukraine, performed on the stage of the Aula Leopoldina and the Oratorium Marianum.
We invite students and doctoral students from all universities, both in Wrocław and other centres, both Polish and foreign (e.g., students participating in the Erasmus+ program) and foreign students from the School of Polish Language and Culture for Foreigners, who would like to showcase their vocal or instrumental skills on the stage of the Oratorium Marianum.
Starting from this edition, we propose to young artists to perform the greatest hits in any language, including English, Belarusian, Czech, Chinese, Croatian, French, Spanish, Greek, Georgian, Japanese, Armenian, Polish, Ukrainian, Hungarian, Italian, and others.
Participation Conditions:
For the preliminary elimination concert, students and doctoral students who best and most interestingly present the greatest not only Slavic hit in the language of their choice will be selected by the organizers. A maximum of 15 participants/teams will be allowed to compete.
Young artists are requested to submit their applications and a demo of 1 song in the chosen language by April 20, 2024, at the latest. A pre-competition jury composed of organizers and musicians will select one of them based on the vocal timbre and repertoire selection.
The application should include:
– the name of the band/name and surname of the soloist, university/city;
– the title and language in which the song will be performed;
– previous achievements (a few sentences about yourself, mandatory);
– personnel and instrumentation;
(songs can be performed a capella or with accompaniment)
no possibility of playback from a musical backing track;
– participants admitted to the competition will choose their accompanists themselves; in case of problems, the organizers provide assistance;
– phone number and email address.

The 21st edition of the not only Slavic Song Contest will take place on Monday, May 13, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Oratorium Marianum. Rehearsals are scheduled on the eve and on the day of the competition, about which all qualified participants will be informed in advance.

– 3rd Prize – of the Institute of Slavic Studies (IFS) Management – PLN 1000 ex aequo

– 3rd Prize – of the Botanical Garden Management – PLN 1000

The main awards will be awarded by the jury and the distinctions by the sponsors of the awards.
The finalists will be judged by: the chairman of the jury – dr Mateusz Wiśniewski from the IFS (formerly associated with the Wrocław Opera, currently with the International Antonina Campi Vocal Competition), the head of the International Office Ms Urszula Broda, the director of the IFS, prof. Oleh Beley, the director of the OKiS, Igor Wójcik, the Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in Wrocław, Mr Arkadiusz Ignasiak, vocalist, owner of the “Art Voice” Voice Center Anna Majkut-Polańska, and multi-instrumentalist Andrzej Walus.
During the jury deliberations, graduates, winners of previous editions, and invited guests will perform.
The results of the competition will be announced by the chairman of the jury, dr Mateusz Wiśniewski from the IFS, and the awards will be presented by the sponsors of the awards.
The audience award will be granted by a student jury (three people) selected from the audience.
