Troll

That’s kind of Troll we like! Learn about the story of the dog from ul. Cybulskiego 32

Troll was an adorable dog baby and was about two months old at the time. At first glance, he resembled a small, fluffy, cold and utterly terrified ball when someone took him out of town on a very cold evening, just before Christmas Eve, and tied him to a pole with a leash, before driving off into the distance. We do not know how long the dog was alone, nor do we know the reasons why Troll met such a fate, but we do know one thing – Troll was also very lucky, as he was found by chance by a man with a really big heart. Mr Jarosław is a porter at the Institute of Geological Sciences of the University of Wrocław, at ul. Cybulskiego 32. He was on his way to do some pre-Christmas shopping, to bring home some eggs and cheese, and stopped the car for a moment in a car park at a roadside inn, when he saw the dog. From a distance it looked a bit like a fox, or some other wild animal. But when it turned out that it was not a fox but a dog, Mr Jarek did not hesitate for a moment and simply took Troll home. He fed him, kept him warm, took him to the vet, gave him what he needed at the time as much as food and medical care – a sense of security.

Troll, who is now about 4 months old, turned out to be a German Shepherd type dog, he already weighs quite a bit and is a very happy and lively dog. Why Troll? “Well, because that’s what he looked like. Like such a forest troll!” – Mr Jarosław told us.

Troll

Apart from the fact that he lives with Mr Jarek, he is also his faithful companion at work – he accompanies him during his duties at the gatehouse at ul. Cybulskiego, guards the premises, chases the martens out of the courtyard at night, and is a hairy therapist on four legs – students of geology, geography and astronomy who have classes in the building love to stroke him, as they say – Troll soothes people, and above all calms them down. Before the winter session, queues lined up to see the Troll, as it was said that getting an A in the exam was a guarantee of success! This is the legend circulating in the faculty, and several students have already confirmed to us that, thanks to Troll, they passed their exams. Not a day goes by without Troll having company. He already has his favourite faculty friends, wagging his tail when he sees them from afar.

Troll also has quite a nose! He recently tracked down a lost wallet of a female student of our University in the bushes in front of the building at ul. Cybulskiego. He took it to his master like a trophy, Mr Jarek looked inside and found the student’s documents. The documents were returned to the owner, and the whole story ended happily.

Troll was received extremely kindly by the Institute’s management, by the Faculty authorities. They understood that Troll could not be left home alone for so many hours, firstly because he is still a dog child, and secondly because he had already been abandoned once. “I am very grateful to the management for their understanding,” the dog’s owner told us.

We also know that there is an idea in the Faculty to send Troll for professional training in dog therapy. He could then stay at our university and already be a completely professional dog therapist. We are keeping our fingers crossed for this very strongly!

We visited Mr Jarek and Troll on duty to make a film about them. We wanted to tell you this wonderful and touching story. We called the film somewhat perversely “This is the kind of Troll we like!”. What struck us while recording the material was Mr Jarek’s extraordinary modesty. Mr Jarek did not ask us for help, we came up with the idea ourselves that it would be nice to collect some food for the dog while publicising the story of the dog. Let this be our help and thanks to Mr Jarek for his great attitude. We have already dropped off some tins, toys and bedding. But if you, too, would like to join our campaign, food for Troll (dry and wet) can be left at the gatehouse at ul. Cybulskiego 32 or sent to: Krzysztof Moskwa, Institute of Geological Sciences UWr, ul. Cybulskiego 32, Wrocław.

And now the video – meet Troll and his master Jarek!
