Our doctoral student as an ambassador of “The Archive Full of Remembrance”
Małgorzata Felińska, a third-year student of the Doctoral College of Sociology, has joined the ranks of the ambassadors of “The Archive Full of Remembrance” of the Institute of National Remembrance.
Our doctoral student is interested in biographical research, collective memory, as well as the history and culture of displaced Eastern Borderlanders.
“The topics are close to me because of my roots.” – says Małgorzata Felińska. – “My family comes from the Eastern Borderlands from the vicinity of Volhynia and Tarnopol.”
She is the author of the monograph “From Eastern Borderlanders to Repatriates. Collective Memory of Eastern Borderland Residents Displaced to Recovered Territories” (self-translation); the member of the Society of Friends of Lviv and the South-Eastern Borderlands, Bolesławiec branch; she cooperates with Katyn Family from Wrocław, the Association of the Victims Afflicted by the Third Reich, and the Sybiracy Association, Wrocław branch.
“After WWII my family was displaced to the Western Territories, to the present Lubelskie Voivodeship.” – says Małgorzata Felińska. – “Part of my family remained in the Eastern Borderland region, where they actively work to commemorate the history of our family and thereby the history of Poles in the Eastern Borderlands. I myself come from the place, where all of us are either the displaced persons or the descendants of the displaced persons.”
In her doctoral dissertation, under the supervision of prof. Jerzy Żurka, she works on the cultural remembrance of the Eastern Borderlanders, who traveled from borderland to borderland – from the Eastern Borderlands to the Western and Northern territories.
What does it mean in practice to be an ambassador of “The Archive Full of Remembrance?” – “I receive the care of the IPN in the form of legal, marketing, and archival support.” – explains our doctoral student. – “I search for diaries and Witnesses of History, and the IPN helps me collect and archive materials, preserving the memory of the Witnesses from oblivion. It also means putting me in the role of a substantive specialist in personal documents – diaries of Eastern Borderlands residents.”
As an ambassador, she also has access to all materials collected during the Project. The collected material will be a source of research for her dissertation.
