Tutoring Academy course at the University of Wrocław – tools and methods

The spring edition of the Tutoring Academy course starts this Saturday, 11 May (there are still places available – you are welcome!). The next edition – the autumn edition – starts on 14 September and will run until 27 October. Registration is ongoing.

Fortunately, there is not a single textbook variant of tutoring. At the University of Wrocław, the tutoring programme is implemented through three types of tutoring: academic tutoring, developmental tutoring and professional tutoring. Albert Einstein used a simple method: ‘The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existence’.

The models developed and applied at the UWr Tutoring Academy have their own characteristics of originality, and each proposed concept is unique and autonomous, resulting from the specificity of the environment. Each edition of the course brings new questions, proposals for new solutions and invigorating curiosity.

HOW WE WORK – a detailed programme

Specific tools and methods

In addition to practical (ready-to-use) theoretical foundations, participants of the Tutoring Academy course will also receive:

  • ready-to-use tools for use in tutoring work (useful, among others, in: building a good tutoring relationship; effective cooperation with business; development of one’s own emotional and social competences; effective communication and cooperation with students; strengthening mental resilience and preventing burnout reactions in work based on developing and teaching others);
  • the possibility to enrich one’s own workshop of working with students by interdisciplinary tutoring methods (consisting, among others, in learning how to build and maintain commitment; using models of giving constructive feedback; developing philosophical prerequisites supporting tutoring; developing goals of a tutoring programme from the perspective of students and their tutors, creating scenarios for scientific workshops or methodologies for non-formal education);
  • the UWr Tutoring Academy course is a concrete, practical support in acquiring new and developing already existing competences, skills and attitudes in the area of supporting, motivating mentees, but also taking care of one’s own well-being in the tutor-student relationship.

The proposed workshop and seminar activities have a practical dimension, aimed at developing the tutoring competences of course participants using a variety of methods emphasising: a. an interdisciplinary approach to problem solving, b. practical exercises, c. moderated discussion

Who do we address our offer to?

The key focus of the Tutoring Academy is to support the research and teaching staff of all interested educational units in the areas of: didactics (tutoring as a teaching method), pedagogy (alternative teaching methods) and psychology (improving well-being and mental health).

We invite you to cooperate with us:

  • research and teaching staff of higher education institutions,
  • teachers
  • educators
  • trainers
  • pedagogues … all those interested in improving the quality of academic and school education.

WHAT MAKES US SPECIAL

  • a team of researchers from various scientific disciplines,
  • an interdisciplinary curriculum.

Going beyond the boundaries of formal education, our passion is curiosity, the joy of understanding and the pleasure of acquiring knowledge and new skills over a cup of aromatic coffee and in the company of inspiring people. Such an atmosphere breeds good energy! WE INVITE.
