Is it possible to escape the horrors of human trafficking?
On 17 May 2024 at 11:00 a.m., the educational project ESCAPETRUCK, which will visit Poland for the second time, will be launched on the premises of the “Remembrance and Future” Centre, Zajezdnia History Centre at ul. Grabiszyńska 184 in Wrocław.
Wrocław is this time the first city on the route of this project, which in an innovative way draws attention to the issue of human trafficking, in particular forced labour and sexual exploitation.
ESCAPETRUCK is an initiative of the Dutch Reshape Foundation and was developed with financial support from the Dutch Police and the Dutch Embassy.
The issue of human trafficking will be presented to visitors in the form of an escape room. Although it is a game, visitors will have a shocking and thought-provoking experience. Participants will learn real stories of women who have been victims of human trafficking in Poland and who managed to escape thanks to the help of the authorities. Participants – in groups of up to six – will have to get out of the truck by solving interactive tasks and breaking codes. A key task for participants will be to help a virtual victim get out of the hopeless situation of being exploited.
The rooms in the escape room have been prepared to reflect the living conditions of victims of human trafficking. You can expect unpleasant sounds and smells and feel the atmosphere of confinement.
Police officers present will provide participants with information on the dangers lurking, how criminals operate and the consequences of human trafficking. The event’s organisers aim to raise public awareness and make victims and their traumas visible.
The project was initiated in Poland in close cooperation with the Centre for Research on Human Trafficking at the University of Wrocław and the Polish Police and Border Guard.
If you are ready to rescue victims from their tragic situation and learn more about human trafficking, join us and try to escape. The event is free to attend and open to people aged 16+. It starts on 17 May (from 11am – the last group enters at 5pm), and on Saturday from 11am until midnight (due to Long Night of Museums). The recordings in the escape room will also be in Ukrainian.
