Prof. Krystyna Galon-Kurkowa passed away

Prof. Krystyna Galon-Kurkowa passed away on 2 July 2024.

The academic community of the University of Wrocław – like the entire community of Wrocław Slavists – received the news of her death with deep sorrow. The passing of Professor – a long-time employee of the Institute of Slavic Studies (in the years 1987-1993 she held the post of Director), an outstanding scholar, historian of Russian literature, distinguished academic teacher, indefatigable populariser of science and, above all, a wonderful person – gives rise to sadness and reflection on the inevitability of passing. Professor will be remembered by the scientific community as an unquestionable authority, a person full of charisma, passion and dedication to the development of literary studies, and the author of several dozen scientific works. Although a number of her alumni have been following the path of the highest values in life and science, it will be difficult to fill the void left by her passing.

Funeral ceremonies will commence on Monday 8 July 2024 at 12.00 p.m. at Jerzmanowski Cemetery (Wrocław, ul. Jerzmanowska 53).
