Medal for research excellence for our geologist
Prof. Jakub Kierczak from the Department of Experimental Petrology of the Institute of Geological Sciences at the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Management has been awarded the European Mineralogical Union Medal for Research Excellence 2022. The medal was officially presented to him at last week’s European Mineralogical Conference 2024 in Dublin.
The justification for awarding the medal highlights the laureate’s achievements in research on the mobility and distribution of metals in natural and anthropogenic soils, and metallurgical slags in the multidisciplinary context of environmental, archaeological and metal recovery research.
Professor Kierczak’s collaboration with a number of scientists representing diverse scientific disciplines to provide mineralogical support for their research was also acknowledged. In addition, the EMU also noted Jakub Kierczak’s commitment to the integration of the mineralogical community in Poland.
