Professor Krzysztof Ruchniewicz received his nomination from the Deputy Minister
Prof. Krzysztof Ruchniewicz, a member of the Historical Institute and Director of the Willy Brandt Centre for German and European Studies, was nominated on 19 September by the Deputy Minister Marek Prawda as a member of the Committee for the ‘Award for Special Services to the Development of Polish-German Relations’.
The Deputy Minister spoke about the Committee, which, in addition to prof. Krzysztof Ruchniewicz, includes Piotr Buras, Małgorzata Ławrowska – von Thadden, Maciej Popowski and Sławomir Sierakowski: – Among those appointed to the Polish part of the Award Committee we have both eminent specialists in the area of Polish-German relations and people with a broader spectrum of professional interests. I am convinced that the interdisciplinary composition of your committee is of great value and will make it possible to select the most outstanding candidates – individuals and organisations – to be honoured in future editions of the Prize.

The winners of the Prize are selected each year by a joint Polish-German Committee consisting of ten representatives from both countries. The Prize is awarded to Polish and German individuals or institutions. Previous recipients of the Prize include Willy Brandt (posthumously), the former foreign ministers and fathers of the Prize, Krzysztof Skubiszewski and Hans-Dietrich Genscher, as well as Tadeusz Mazowiecki, Countess Marion von Dönhoff, the European University Viadrina, the GFPS Scientific and Cultural Association in Central and Eastern Europe and in 2006 the committee awarded one Prize to Bishop Alfons Nossol of Opole. The last time the award was presented posthumously to prof. Władysław Bartoszewski was in 2015.
