UWr German philologists on the board of the Central European Association of Germanists!

The seventh international congress of the Central European Germanist Association (Mitteleuropäischer Germanistenverband) was held at the Universitatea Tehnică de Construcții din București (UTCB) in September. More than 130 speakers from 20 countries worldwide attended the congress.

During the congress, elections of the association’s authorities were held.

As a result of the election, the position of president of the MGV association was once again and unanimously entrusted to prof. dr hab. Joanna Szczęk from the UWr Institute of German Studies. Dr Marcelina Kałasznik (treasurer) and dr Przemysław Staniewski (secretary), both also from the UWr Institute of German Studies, were also elected to the board.

The Mitteleuropäischer Germanistenverband is an international association of Germanists which was founded in October 2003 at the Technical University of Dresden. It brings together Germanists from European countries. The association currently has more than 300 members from over 20 countries.

The MGV sees its task in addressing intercultural and cross-border issues and developing academic activities related to German language and literature and all related areas. The main activities of the MGV are the organisation of congresses (every 2-3 years), the publication of post-congress volumes, the journal ‘Zeitschrift für Mitteleuropäische Germanistik’, which is the publication organ of the association.
