Prof. dr hab. Kazimierz Działocha passed away

It is with deep sadness and regret that we announce the passing of the late Prof. dr hab. Kazimierz Działocha, born on 29 January 1932 in the village of Wysocko Wielkie, on 3 September 2024.

Professor Emeritus, for many years Head of the Chair of Constitutional Law at the Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics of the University of Wrocław.

Graduated from the Faculty of Law and Administration in 1955, and began working as an assistant, passing through all levels of his academic carrier. He was awarded the degree of Doctor of Laws in 1962, habilitated in the field of state law in 1968, professor at the University of Wrocław since 1977; the title of professor of legal sciences was conferred on him in 1984.

He also carried out his scientific activity as a member of the Committee of Legal Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He was a judge of the first Constitutional Tribunal in 1985-1993. In 1995 he was elected to the Senate of the 3rd term. In 1997-2001, he was a Member of the Sejm of the third term. As a member of the Constitutional Committee of the National Assembly, he exerted a significant influence on the shape of the current Constitution. He twice served as a member of the Legislative Council to the Prime Minister and also sat on the Civil Service Council. He was a co-founder of the Polish Constitutional Law Society, of which he was the president in 1992-2001, and then the Honorary President of the Polish Constitutional Law Society.

He was also one of the vice-presidents of the board of the Polish Section of the International Association of Constitutional Law, a member of the International Commission of Jurists, the Polish Legislative Society and an ordinary member of the Wrocław Scientific Society, as well as co-chairman of the Board of the Polish-German Cooperation Foundation. Since 2003 he has also been a member of the International Academy of Comparative Law, based in Paris. For his scientific and social activities he was repeatedly honoured by the Minister of National Education, the Minister of Higher Education and awarded with the Rector’s Prize of the University of Wrocław.

In the deceased we lose a noble Man, an outstanding Scholar and an excellent Academic Teacher, an educator of numerous generations of young people, always deeply devoted to the matters of the University of Wrocław, the Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics and the Chair of Constitutional Law.

The funeral Mass, followed by the funeral ceremony. will be held on 7.09.2024, at 12:00, in the parish church in Wysocko Wielkie (ul. Kościelna 1).
