The Division of the Polish Sociological Association and the Institute of Sociology of the University of Wrocław in cooperation with the Wrocław Institute of Culture invite you to the next meeting in the SocjoPercepcja series.
The meeting will take place on 20 November (Wednesday) at 6pm in the Recepcja club bar café, ul. Ruska 46, Wrocław.
The meeting will focus on the book Odczarowanie talentu. Socjografia stawania się uznanym artystą, authored by dr Piotr Szenajch of the University of Lodz.
The book, which forms the basis for our meeting, is based on autobiographical conversations with these artists, classics of Polish contemporary visual art.
Piotr Szenajch proposes new ways of describing artistic work’s social, cultural and economic conditions. He takes an innovative approach to analyzing the biographies, artistic environments and conceptual work involved in cultural production. He breaks with the modernist vision of the artist as an isolated genius, showing the influence of various factors on the formation of the creative personality.
Among the life stories described are examples of spectacular social advancement, which gives the book an important class dimension. Key chapters are devoted to factors beyond individual experience – material, non-human and extra-corporeal elements that influence the formation of artistic identity.
Guest: Piotr Szenajch specializes in sociological biographical and discursive research. He is a graduate of the Institute of Applied Social Sciences at the University of Warsaw and the School of Social Sciences of the Institute of Philosophy of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. He works as an assistant professor at the Institute of Sociology, University of Lodz. He is the author of the book Odczarowanie talentu. Socjografia stawania się uznanym artystą.
