Szewskie czwartki: a lecture by dr Łukasz Sobechowicz

The Historical Institute of the University of Wrocław cordially invites you to the next “Szewskie czwartki”, which will be held online on 12 December (Thursday) at 18:00.

The event’s guest speaker will be dr Łukasz Sobechowicz from the Institute of Geography and Spatial Organization of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, who will deliver a lecture entitled “Biologiczny standard życia w XIX-wiecznej Polsce. Geny, środowisko, miejsce zamieszkania a wysokość ciała człowieka”.

Dr Sobechowicz is a historical demographer specializing in the history of 19th-century Central and Eastern Europe and a member of the Interdisciplinary Research Group on the Anthropocene.

His research focuses on the resilience of rural societies to various stress factors, such as famine, epidemics, floods and war. He is the author of a monograph published this year entitled “Piętno głodu. Biologiczny standard życia w Królestwie Polskim przed uwłaszczeniem.”
