Prize of the Foundation for Polish Science for prof. Wodziński from UWr!

Prof. Marcin Wodziński of the Chair of Jewish Studies at the University of Wrocław, who received the 2024 Prize of the Foundation for Polish Science, considered the most important scientific award in the country, talks about his scientific activities!

Prof. Marcin Wodziński of the Chair of Jewish Studies at the University of Wrocław was among four outstanding scholars whose names were announced at the end of October 2024. The gala at which the awards will be presented on 4 December will be broadcast here:  https://youtu.be/h2v2FRcymMQ

The award is given in four areas: life and earth sciences, chemical and material sciences, mathematical and physical sciences and engineering, and humanities and social sciences.

The Prize of the Foundation for Polish Science is an individual award. It is awarded by the Foundation Council through a competitive process. Laureates are selected from a pool of candidates submitted by prominent representatives of the scientific community, invited by name by the FNP Council and Board. The FNP Council acts as the competition’s Chapter and selects the winners based on the opinions of independent experts and reviewers – mainly from abroad – who evaluate the candidates’ achievements.

The Prize of the Foundation for Polish Science is awarded for special scientific achievements and discoveries that push the boundaries of cognition and open new cognitive perspectives, make an outstanding contribution to the civilizational and cultural progress of our country, and provide Poland with a significant place in addressing the most ambitious challenges of the modern world. The amount of the Prize is PLN 250,000.

The FNP Prizes have been awarded since 1992, and the group of winners, including this year’s Prize winners, already includes 121 people.

The awards were given by the Foundation for Polish Science for the 33rd time.

Among the awardees this year were:

Prof. dr hab. Marcin Wodziński from the Chair of Jewish Studies at the University of Wrocław, received the Prize of the Foundation for Polish Science 2024 in the area of humanities and social sciences for his innovative studies of Hasidism explaining the role of culture, politics and geography in shaping religious identities and interethnic relations.

Dr hab. Sebastian Glatt from the Malopolska Centre for Biotechnology at Jagiellonian University, has received the Prize of the Foundation for Polish Science 2024 in the area of life and earth sciences for determining the structure and function of the Elongator complex affecting the correctness of protein biosynthesis.

Prof. dr hab. Janusz Lewińskifrom the Faculty of Chemistry at the Warsaw University of Technology and the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences, received the Prize of the Foundation for Polish Science 2024 in the area of chemical and materials sciences for developing mechanochemical methods for the synthesis of perovskites to improve their photovoltaic properties.

Prof. dr hab. Krzysztof Sacha of the Institute of Theoretical Physics at Jagiellonian University, has received the Prize of the Foundation for Polish Science 2024 in the area of mathematical, physical and engineering sciences for his formulation of the theory of time crystals.

In 2023, prof. Marcin Stępień of the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Wrocław received the Prize of the Foundation for Polish Science in the area of chemical and materials sciences.
