Open lecture at the Faculty of Biological Sciences

The staff of the Faculty of Biological Sciences invites you to an open lecture by prof. Tomas Pinos Figueras, entitled: “Molecular insights into McArdle’s disease. Similarities and differences with other glycogen storage diseases and current therapeutic strategies.”

The lecture will be held on 29.01.2025 from 11.00-13.00, in the large lecture hall of WNB, ul. Kanonia 6/8, and will be delivered in English.

Prof. Tomas Pinos Figueras is the head of a research group on glycogen storage diseases in muscle at the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (Barcelona, Spain).

He is the coordinator of the prestigious European registry for people with McArdle’s disease and other extremely rare muscle glycogen storage disorders EUROMAC. Coordinator working with Women, Child and Rare Diseases ECORE at the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute, contributing to significant advances in rare disease research.

He has also made a name for himself as a promoter of the development of an app for patients with muscle glycogen storage disorders, “mov2improv,” to support their health and quality of life. A member of AGSD (USA) and a fellow of the Spanish Association of Patients with Glycogen Storage Disorders (AEEG; glucogenosis.org), he is actively involved in the patient community.

He is the author or co-author of 61 research articles that have significantly enriched the knowledge in the field of glycogen storage diseases.
