
Social isolation, imprisonment and incapacitation. Overseeing women’s drinking in the second half of the 19th century
The Historical Institute of the University of Wrocław cordially invites you to the next “Szewski czwartek” – an interdisciplinary online lecture to be held on 30 January at 6 pm.
The guest speaker will be dr Dorota Dias-Lewandowska (Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology, Polish Academy of Sciences), who will deliver a lecture entitled: „Społeczna izolacja, więzienie i ubezwłasnowolnienie. Nadzorowanie kobiecego picia w drugiej połowie XIX wieku”.
Dr Dorota Dias-Lewandowska is an anthropologist and historian specializing in the study of drunkenness and sobriety in the 18th and 19th centuries. She is the author of many scientific publications, including the monograph Historia kulturowa wina francuskiego w Polsce od połowy XVII do początku XIX wiekury” (2014). She is currently directing two research projects funded by the National Science Centre on sobriety and drunkenness in Polish lands in the 19th century and women’s drinking in Polish and British public narratives in the second half of the 19th century.
